Abu Dhabi is rapidly cementing its position as one of the world’s most dynamic artificial intelligence (AI) hubs, drawing startups and investors as traditional global technology centers face regulatory pressures and economic challenges.
At the heart of this rise is Hub71, these startups cover fields such as genomics, enterprise software, drug discovery, and clinical research. In total, Hub71 now hosts over 300 companies spanning fintech, climate tech, and digital assets, generating more than AED 4.5 billion (US$1.2 billion) in revenue to date.
According to the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce, the emirate’s AI sector surged 61% between June 2023 and June 2024, with more than 673 companies now operating in the space. In the first half of 2025 alone, 150 new AI firms were launched, making Abu Dhabi the fastest-growing AI hub in the Middle East and North Africa. Over half of these companies are dedicated to research, innovation, and consultancy.
Abu Dhabi’s ambitions are underpinned by a strong institutional framework. The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI)—the world’s first dedicated AI university—alongside the Technology Innovation Institute (TII) and the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council (AIATC), provides the backbone for talent development and advanced research.
Meanwhile, the emirate is investing heavily in infrastructure. The UAE, in partnership with U.S. firms, is building a 10-square-mile AI data campus in Abu Dhabi, the largest outside America, with 5 GW capacity and access to cutting-edge Nvidia chips. In parallel, OpenAI and Abu Dhabi’s G42 are collaborating on “Stargate UAE,” a 1 GW AI data center project expected to begin operations in 2026.
Analysts say Abu Dhabi’s combination of stable regulation, sovereign-backed investment, talent pipelines, and global partnerships is helping the city emerge as a credible rival to Silicon Valley, London, and Singapore.
As global hubs stumble, Abu Dhabi appears set to become a new epicenter for artificial intelligence innovation—positioning the UAE at the forefront of the AI economy.
