Etihad Rail Passenger Service on Track for 2026 Launch After Successful Dubai–Fujairah Test

The UAE’s landmark Etihad Rail passenger service has moved a step closer to reality, following a successful test run between Dubai and Fujairah, confirming that the national rail network is on course for its official 2026 launch.

Senior officials, including UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, joined the test journey, highlighting the significance of the milestone for the country’s transport and sustainability goals.

The new passenger rail line will eventually link 11 key cities and regions — from Al Sila in Abu Dhabi’s western region to Fujairah on the east coast — covering approximately 900 kilometres. Each train will accommodate up to 400 passengers, with projected ridership expected to reach 36.5 million passengers annually by 2030.

Travel times will be significantly reduced across the Emirates, with estimated durations of 57 minutes between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, 70 minutes between Abu Dhabi and Ruwais, and just 105 minutes between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah.

Operated in partnership with French transport company Keolis, Etihad Rail’s passenger service promises a world-class travel experience featuring dedicated areas for work, reading, and relaxation. Stations are being designed as connected hubs to integrate with local metro, bus, and taxi services, ensuring smooth first- and last-mile connectivity.

The project aligns with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategy, offering a sustainable and efficient alternative to road transport while strengthening national connectivity and economic growth.

While an exact launch date has yet to be confirmed, Etihad Rail officials reaffirmed that commercial passenger operations are set to commence in 2026, marking a major leap in the UAE’s transport evolution.
