Saudi Arabia Launches 480MW Hexagon Data Center in Riyadh, Boosting National Digital Ambitions

Saudi Arabia has officially inaugurated the Hexagon Data Center in Riyadh, a landmark facility boasting a 480-megawatt capacity, making it one of the largest government-owned data centers in the world.

The state-of-the-art facility, spanning over 30 million square feet, is designed to support the Kingdom’s growing digital economy and advance its national Artificial Intelligence and cloud computing initiatives. It has achieved Tier IV certification, the highest standard for reliability, ensuring near-continuous uptime, and complies with international infrastructure standards including TIA942 and ISO/IEC 22237.

The Hexagon Data Center is also environmentally conscious, featuring energy-efficient cooling systems, renewable energy integration, and LEED Gold certification. These initiatives align with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals of promoting sustainable digital transformation and technological leadership.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman expressed support for the project, highlighting its strategic importance in enhancing government services, data sovereignty, and AI development. According to the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA), the nationwide network of hyperscale data centers, starting with Hexagon, is projected to deliver economic benefits exceeding SAR 10 billion ($2.67 billion) and annual savings of SAR 1.8 billion.

The Hexagon facility marks a major milestone in Saudi Arabia’s bid to position itself as a regional technology and digital hub, capable of hosting advanced computing workloads, large-scale cloud operations, and next-generation AI applications.
