India, UAE Sign $3 Billion LNG Deal, Pledge to Deepen Trade and Defence Ties

India and the United Arab Emirates have signed a $3 billion long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement, marking a significant milestone in their expanding bilateral relationship. Under the deal, the UAE will supply LNG to India over several years, helping the country meet its rising energy demand and supporting its shift toward cleaner fuels in line with its climate and energy transition goals. The agreement also reflects the UAE’s growing role as a reliable energy partner for India, providing stability to India’s energy imports and reinforcing its energy security strategy.

Beyond energy cooperation, both countries agreed to strengthen ties in trade, investment, and defence, aiming to increase bilateral trade volumes and facilitate cross-border investments in key sectors such as infrastructure, technology, logistics, and renewable energy. On the defence front, India and the UAE committed to enhancing military collaboration, including joint exercises, capacity-building initiatives, and closer cooperation in defence manufacturing and maritime security, particularly in the strategically important Indian Ocean region.

The agreements were concluded during high-level discussions between senior officials and leaders from both nations, highlighting the depth and maturity of the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Analysts say the deal not only secures India’s LNG supplies but also signals a broader alignment between New Delhi and Abu Dhabi on economic growth, regional security, and strategic interests. With energy, trade, and defence cooperation at the forefront, India and the UAE are poised to take their bilateral relations to new heights in the coming years.
