India’s Rooftop Solar Market Set for Major Growth, Could Reach 132 GW by 2030

India’s rooftop solar industry is entering a period of strong expansion, with its total potential capacity estimated to reach around 132 GW by 2030. The outlook reflects growing interest among households and businesses in generating electricity locally while reducing dependence on conventional power sources.

The sector is expected to add roughly 9 GW to 15 GW of capacity each year over the coming years. Falling equipment costs, greater awareness of solar power and supportive government programmes are expected to encourage more consumers to install systems on residential, commercial and other buildings.

Residential installations are likely to remain an important driver of this growth. Government initiatives aimed at increasing household access to rooftop solar are helping improve affordability and encouraging consumers to consider solar generation as a long-term way to manage electricity expenses.

The anticipated expansion will create opportunities throughout the solar ecosystem.
