South Korea Unveils $950 Billion AI Partnerships, Strengthening Global Technology Leadership
In a landmark development for the global artificial intelligence industry, South Korea has announced partnership agreements worth approximately $950 billion, with technology giants Samsung Electronics and SK Group leading the initiative. The agreements were unveiled during a high-profile AI summit in San Francisco attended by South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, alongside executives from some of the world’s most influential technology companies, including Nvidia, OpenAI, Broadcom and Anthropic. The partnerships underscore South Korea’s determination to position itself at the forefront of the rapidly expanding AI revolution.
The largest commitment comes from SK Group, which revealed approximately $750 billion in long-term collaborations aimed at accelerating AI infrastructure and semiconductor innovation. A significant portion of this investment includes a strategic partnership between SK Hynix and Nvidia to advance next-generation High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) chips, AI computing platforms and large-scale AI data centres. The initiative is expected to enhance the global supply of advanced AI hardware while reinforcing South Korea’s leadership in memory semiconductor technology.
Samsung Electronics further strengthened the country’s AI ambitions by signing a $200 billion memorandum of understanding with Broadcom. The agreement focuses on developing next-generation AI accelerators, advanced memory chips, semiconductor foundry services and cutting-edge chip packaging technologies. As demand for AI-powered computing continues to surge worldwide, the collaboration is expected to significantly expand Samsung’s role in supplying the critical technologies that power data centres, cloud computing and intelligent applications.
The summit concluded with the adoption of the San Francisco AI Declaration, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in advancing artificial intelligence responsibly and sustainably. South Korean President Lee emphasized that collaboration with global technology leaders will help accelerate innovation, strengthen semiconductor supply chains and create new economic opportunities for businesses and researchers across the world.
The massive investment commitments represent a major vote of confidence in South Korea’s technological capabilities and its semiconductor ecosystem. With Samsung Electronics and SK Group already among the world’s leading chipmakers, these partnerships are expected to drive substantial investment in research, manufacturing and AI infrastructure while creating thousands of high-value jobs. The agreements also reinforce South Korea’s strategic role in supporting the next generation of AI technologies that will shape industries ranging from healthcare and manufacturing to finance and autonomous mobility.
For global markets, the announcement signals continued momentum in artificial intelligence investment and highlights the growing importance of international collaboration in meeting the world’s rapidly increasing demand for advanced computing power. As AI adoption accelerates across industries, South Korea’s latest partnerships position the country as one of the world’s most influential hubs for semiconductor innovation and AI-driven economic growth.
